Taken in Golden Gate Park, SF,CA

Parked myself at this corner and played around with panning.

These guys were ripping around the corner and if they missed their line I would have had a face full of bike.

Cool panning shots. The second and third are my favorites. Some really crazy movement in number two and great tight composition in the third. You've done a great job making these cyclocross shots have a creative flair.

Sweet shots.
#2 just needed a bit of face sharp and it would be brilliant.

Nice shots!
I notice your shutter speeds are all very slow - some 1/30 sec. I wonder if you upped them to maybe 1/250 when panning you might get a sharper focus of the riders.

1 and 2 work for me, the others do not for some reason.

Well, they would likely be sharper focused, but the effect from panning at low shutter speeds would not be present..

I am finding that most of my good panned shots of cycling are when they are almost level with me which is good because you still get the front of the face (in focus) and the rest of it does whatever it does and the weirder, the better IMHO.

The first two are near misses iMHO, but the third one is good. You will get plenty like the first two when panning, but that is part of the game.

Keep trying. Never up, never in I say.

Regards,
Jeff

OK, here are two from the district championships that I took.

They were taken a week later as I continued to work on the Panning.

No cropping applied and no PP. just reduced size for posting.

Comments?

#1 Sweet (just crop left off slightly).
#2 Damn sunnies (crop to portrait).
#3 If his face was just fractionally sharper...

Nice :)

Hope this helps.

The spot that you were panning from looks to be difficult as they are coming more towards you than going by infront of you. im a noobie, so just a thought of trying to shoot them at a slightly different angle where you cloud follow them from side to side more than then coming towards you. keep em comin, love looking at pics!
