Hello,

I have looked around but cannot find a definitive answer to if the setup of a 30D and 100-400 lens + grip would fit in the main compartment in the Kata R-102?

I have got responses from some suppliers but none have actualy tried and said for sure. Does anyone have this setup and can they advise if this works.

Cheers,

Tommy.

Can't say for certain because I don't have that lens , but I can fit my 30D with Sig 100-300 f4 fitted into the main compartment of my R-103 no problem. I think its bigger than the 100-400. If you want I could prob take a pic next day or so.

Hi,

That would be great if you could :) Would give me a better idea. Do you use the grip also on the camera when in the bag?

thanks again :)

Heres a photo just below your thread with the 70-200 f/2.8 attached which I believe is slightly longer than the 100-400.

Bluedog's link is probably the best indication you can get.

No I don't use a grip. But there is plenty of depth for one. I normally store my body sideways in the main compartment with the 24-70 attached. The 100-300 goes next to it with the tripod ring and hood reversed fitted.

It will fit fine - I can get my 1DMKIIN with 100-400 in the main compartment with maybe 1cm to spare (hood reversed).

Cheers guys,

The 100-400 is a little shorter and same width as the Sigma you mention. Can you fit it actualy mounted in the bag or just alongside it?

Either way I think I will still get one as it will fit in one way or another :) Mmmm now to work out if I will get a laptop in the next year or so ;)

For me, that combination fits just fine with room to spare. Which one did you go with - the 102 or 103?

I have the Kata 102 right now and you will have no problem with the 30D with grip fitting in the bad as I have the 1DMKII and it fits great. There was a member from the UK that had a great site with all the bags and what you can fit in them....Can't find it :(

That's it...Thanks, check out this link as it's my gear at that time.
Review #3
The piece of cardboard was to represent the added height of a battery grip or going to the 1 series body.
