No boxing around here until next month and I am going through withdrawal pangs!

Just started shooting the ring this fall... and this night has been my absolute favorite..though it feels so long ago. These are really sportraits. Sorry you will recognize the first character and I was so starstruck after getting that one, I have no clue who the boxer is. This was a 17th annual local charity that some one asked me to shoot the day before.

Linda

Really like the second one. I'd crop a bit if the dead space off the right though.

I think the space is correct in this case.. You imagine his glove darting out with a quick jab... it's hard to imagine without the space. maybe off the top? So second pic worls for me.

First pic not so good for me personally. You say we will recognise him. Well I don't (who is it?) and it's more like s quick snapshot. sorry :)

I suppose thinking about it and looking at it again you are right. It leads the eye to where his fist is going.

Thanks Tony...
Kipax...Sorry...that is announcer Michael "Lets get ready to RUMBLE! Buffer. I should have put that one in a different tread...but it was part of an event with the main event as boxing and he is a well known (I thought!) announcer...
Darren L...If I had to submit it to a mag or wire, I am sure it would be cropped to the bone. I like the freedom of being able to use all the space. When it's framed and hanging on a gallery wall next year that space will balance the shot very nicely...I think it's all how we are trained to look at certain pictures certain ways. i.e., sports...tight. crisp, "don't show me anything but THE moment"... art....thought and emotion provoking expression.
Thanks for looking and your comments.

hope you don't mind but i was playing around with the 2nd image earlier, i think it's a great shot and the space to the right adds something to the shot.

let me kow what you think

The second shot is certainly a nice sportrait. Following in Brolly's footsteps, here's a B&W version for your consideration...

Brolly...I like it...it's a twist isn't it? First time I have seen someone actually make a boxing picture darker! LOL.

Gavin...I LOVE IT! I think I will print it as a B&W. I really like color, but the B&W really gives it a more dramatic and serious feel.

Thanks much!
Linda

Fights will be coming around soon, you going to shoot the "Rising star events"
The black and white photos looks good. Something about boxing and B/W -you can really never go wrong with that combo. Nice "sportraits" photo

Have a great holiday

Hey Eddy...

Yup, already talked to Joe about it. I was freaking out, because I have to fly to Atlanta on the 1st and 2nd and do some training, but he said the weighin will be Saturday...whew! You and JL and Co. going to be there too, right?

Hi Linda
Don't think I will be there, somebody might go to make a appearance from are side. But not real sure on that at this time. You ended up with some good shots from the last fight, good stuff there Linda.

Its looking like it will be a good event Joe puts on some good matches.

All the best
Eddy
