That's just not right . . . open the box and set the poor thing free!

I've had my AB Ringflash for over a week now but my wife won't let me open it until Christmas, so there it sits, suffocating under the Christmas tree.

Open the box my friend, and let me live through you.

I joined the AB club and I also re-joined it with my 2nd light purchase not too long ago.

They really are great lights for the money, their service is good and for what they cost, i really cant complain about it.

Grats on the purchase.

A satin white umbrella will give you a significantly softer light than a silver one.

Hi Skip,

In my research and in other posts a white umbrella is almost always recommended. If that is the case then what are the specific types of shots that you might flip the umbrella and use the silver side, or for that matter, use a gold umbrella. I don't see recommendations for the. The same is true of things like the Lumiquest ProMax system. I never see anyone discussing or recommending the gold or silver inserts, just the white.

Can you explain when and why I would want anything other than a white umbrella or softbox?

I've heard that the silver will give more pronounced specular highlights. Don't ask me to define that, though  . I couldn't even find the word in the small dictionary that I have. I think what it means is brighter spots of light on reflective areas of the subject.

All I have is white satin umbrellas and I never use the silver or gold inserts that are in my Promax System kit either.
