...or a total cock-up???

The latter.

A complete failure to anticipate the action, compounded by shooting in the wrong orientation.

The end result:

Haha, good work Gavin, and I think somehow it works...you wouldn't immediately think it, but I guess there could be some uses for it!

Could always provide an amusing caption competition too! I have a few in mind!

That's funny. Been there, done that. With all due respect though I have to agree with you gavin...definitely a flub. I have to disagree with Stacas and say it doesn't work. It's obviously a "doh!"

I have in the past delibratly taken a picture with wasted space so editors can add text over the image.

I don't do it very often as I don't get it right regually enough and the pictures always look weird.

Anyway, it is a bit different and that's a good thing.

Gavin - Thanks for this! I suspected that you might be human -- now I know ;) .

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

I'm going to be diplomatic and sit on the fence.

Evidently a slight balls up (then again, at least its in focus!) however from an editorial perspective would work well with a huge headline across the top!!

However, Gavin, at least we finally have tangible evidence that you are in fact human and prone to the odd mistake....even if it is well exposed and in focus!!!!

I do that all the time! Wrong spaces. But you still caught a good emotional reaction, so that helps.

They dont all have to be cropped tight and I can see where your coming from BUT..would be bob on if he was an inch to the right then he isnt looking out of the picture.. same amount of open space but so annoying when he is just slightly wrong position..just an inch ..

But don't worry son...you show potential ;)

How lovely of you to give the editors such generous cropping latitude. The important thing is you got your logo on there so no one can copy the image and everyone will know this is your creation. I say run with it... you never know. I've seen the likes of shots worse then this used....again, you just never know. Cheers.
