why, worry about the camera? for me, it's as simple as being able to focus properly for sports. the xt just doesn't have enough juice to power both IS and af at the same time (hell, even the viewfinder display, you know, the green text, gets dim when af and IS are on at the same time). also, af accuracy matters a lot, even for newsprint. 20d and above is basically a must for sports photogs, unless you like a 10% success rate (don't say that you should manual focus it, because xt doesn't have the option within warrentee). just like a pumber wouldn't use a wrench that doesn't provide enough foot-pounds of torque, a photographer shouldn't use a camera that doesn't provide what you need.... of course, if price is an issue (which it always will be), then go for the best you can afford... (in my case, xt)

Is the low-power problem using the in-camera battery or with the grip and 2xbatteries? I've never ever heard of this problem before.

Does it matter? The camera is only a tool, the same as a plumber uses a wrench. And that is why I dont post equipment list - its not relevant to anyone except anoraks

The santa shooter is probably doing prints no larger than 10x8 and so his camera is fine. I have just had a tog shooting the same with a 6 year old D30. No-one worried about her camera, why would they?

It only matters when the camera and or lens is the limitation to getting a picture.

Or when it is expected by a customer (usually only applies to a limited number of people, but having a better camera is not likely to lose you business, but you might lose some if you have a lesser camera or equipment because of bias)

Or to put it another way, I don't hire a plumber because they have just a wrench, I hire them because they have BOTH the SKILL and the TOOLS to do the job better then I could. I have the skills, but I don't feel like spending the money to get all the tools needed to do it right. I would rather spend my money on better camera equipment to take pictures for the Plumber who has a lesser camera.

Enough Skill can overcome the limitations of a tool, but it only takes a little more skill to use the better tool even better.

Just my opinion,

EDIT: I just realised I need to mention that you don't need a 1DsMkII to be a professional, but you better have the skill to get the shot right with a lesser camera. Me, I like to have the ability to crop as much as is needed, which is why the 16.7MP (among other things).

One thing that seems to be coming over loud and clear is that most of the forum users seem to use the cheaper Canon cameras rather than the 1 series.

Another thing that comes over loud and clear is that most regard glass as more important than bodies - pretty much as we all did in our film days.

That's been loud and clear for some time now. Reason? High end bodies are cha-ching. If they were dirt cheap then of course we'd all have them. No reason not to if that were the case.

Better to have good glass on a cheaper body than crap glass on an expensive body. 1 series doesn't automagically mean better images - it just means the extremes are easier to battle through or simply make an otherwise impossible shot possible (again, in what are extreme conditions to most people). A crappy lens looks like a$$ no matter what body it's mounted on.

Yeah, a multiple choice would be cool. I guess I'll pick the one, I'd prefer if I could only have 1.

Or maybe Canon will bless us all with some new models to buy ....... I am praying they do.

Dude, Mark, just buy a 1DMKII off FM forums!! Great deals. I know it would compliment your skills well. I mean you already have a MKI, so you know what you are getting into. :)

I was contemplating on getting a 5D for it's FF "wide-ness" due to my part time business requirement. However after much thought it was cheaper in terms of financial value to get an EF-S 10-22 to go with my XT and 20d.
So far my clients have not questioned the camera bodies. The results prove themselves loud and clear. :)

20D, 5D, and 1DMKIIN - they each have their use in my photography.

I think this can be partly attributed to the statisitics that the membership here, hobbiest vs shooting pro, is probably weighted heavily on the hobbiest side.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
