I plan to acquire at least one new camera before the rebates end, but I change my mind every hour about it. I presently have a 1DMkIIN and a 20D. I won't get rid of the 1D but I am not convinced it is the best wedding camera. The 20D I cannot anticipate will last through another full wedding season. I prefer 3 bodies, as I often use one on remote.

Anyway, I am torn between one 5D or two 30D's. good things are said about the 5D, especially for wedding work. But, the cost/value ratio of the 30D is hard to overlook.

Any feedback would be appreciated and if anyone can show or forward identical files from each camera that would be a real help.

Thanks.

not knowing how many weddings a year you shoot, would make the decision "difficult"
I'd say to go with the 30D bodies as there are rumors on other Canon's coming out.

People were raving about the D30's and D60's when they came out? Rememebr those modrels? Are you after megapixels or bodies? An 8.2 megapixel for wedding photos is adequate to blow up.

Thanks Jess...I have studied that thread and it has left me more indecisive! Oh well...

And lest anyone else, I expect to shoot approx. 25 weddings this year.

Get a 5D and 30D. 800 in rebates. What more could you ask for? Use the rebate money on a 135L, and you still have money for a CF card, or two.

Good luck.

I second this recommendation and may go this route myself. :)

That's an idea...then I can do my own tests! Actually, I was thinking the 5D and a 200L to exercise full rebates.

I wonder, though, if you buy 2 30D's and a qualifying lens, such as the 200L, do you get the full double rebates on all items since the cameras are the same.

No, you will get the double rebate on one camera, and one lens, and then a single rebate on the other 30D, should you decide on 2 30D's. If you were to get a 5D, 30D, and 200L, you would get double rebates on all three items.
