Can anyone tell me how I take a snapshot of everything on the display in Photoshop CS2. I've seen many times where someone has posted a screenshot so others can see the process of what they did. I'm sure it's very simple, I just have no clue how. When I hit the camera icon in the History Palette in jus put a snapshot of the image in the History Window, so I guess that's not it..

Thanks in advance...

Assuming windows, (dont know about mac) on your keyboard there should be a button called "Print Screen". Press than, then just Paste into PS.

For Mac

  • To capture the entire screen, press Command+Shift+3.
  • To capture part of a screen, press Command+Shift+4.
The cursor will then turn into a cross-hairs icon. Click and drag over an area to select it. When you release the mouse button, the image is taken, and you'll hear a snapshot sound.

For Windows XP:

  • "Screen Print" (copies the display to the clipboard)
  • In PS, "Ctrl-N", then "OK" (creates a new blank image at the proper size)
  • "Ctrl-V" (Pastes the image from the clipboard into the new image)

A nice little trick is that Alt-PrintScreen captures just the client window. That's nice to capture an options box or something, without having to crop.

I find FastStone Capture just the ticket for any screen capture. And it's free:
