Hey, you've been busy Jojo. Thanks for another interesting test. I wish you would have thrown in my favorite prime, the Sigma 28mm f1.8. I'd also like to have seen the corner crops myself. On my test, the Sigma 28mm, made for FF, had sharper corners than the 30mm on 30D's cropped sensor. I would have expected the Canon 28mm to be the same seeing as it's made for a FF as well.

The Canon seems to remind me of my Sigma in terms of CA and contrast as well, not as contrasty as the 30mm.

Well done JoJo. Another sterling effort supplied for the enjoyment and education of the photographing community worldwide.

So, anyway, the 30mm 1.4 slaps 28mm butt ... we knew that already in our hearts tho' didn't we (taking nothing from the decent 28mm!) BUT also looking by a country mile the better buy in most respects compared to the 35mm 1.4?  Man, even I can't quite believe one of my favourite L's is looking so overpriced in comparision that it is embarassing

What will Ed Radar say now  Moan about Sigma QA probably

Thanks for your tests!

Good job! I had a long internal debate between Sigma 30mm and Canon 28mm before finally deciding on the Sigma. I am so glad I did...it's fast becoming my favorite lens on my 30D! Sigma 30mm 1.4 is a true gem in my opinion.

Thanks for the review, im currently in the market for a wide fast prime, and after hearing tons of good things about the Sigma, and now this review, I think you've finalized my decision.

nice test, you should have had a test at 2.0 and 2.2 as for primes i would assume most people buy them to use under 2.8 since thats where a fast zoom stops. and it would be interetign how much better the canon gets stopped down to 2.0

Karen,

Notice from your signature that you used to own the tamron 17-50 f/2.8. May I know why you replaced it with the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS? Is the Canon that much better? Thanks for your input.

Right, but a lens better than the 35L on a FF is appealing.
