G1 -how do I open the AVI clips on a Mac?

I've been seroiusly looking at buying the Canon G1. One thing holding me back is that silly little movie mode.

I cannot seem to open the AVI movie clips that the G1 produces.

I am on a Macintosh G4, 320 MB RAM. Quicktime 4 or 5 will not open the files. Realplayer is the less than desired default icon on the AVI files. The realplayer download dialog box tells me that I need an updated plugin, but none is available currently. Help.
