I am not really convinced that there is a great deal of difference between any of the better carbon fiber models. I am convinced that you do need a carbon fiber as it will get used when it needs to. Also the 488RC2 is a great head on a tripod.

I have never had any problems whatsoever with the ...RC2 mounting system.

My Canon lenses are all rather heavy, and even with the ...RC2 held in a "portrait" mode where the weight of the lens would like to rotate the camera on the QR plate, I have had no problems.
