Question:

These were taken at the outdoor demo / interbike in the fall (las vegas).

When shooting these kind of shots, is it important to get the ground to give an idea how high the guy is in the air (such as #3) or does a shot like #1 work?

I liked these shots but when showing them to someone they commented they like to see the ground to give an idea of perspective.

comments and suggestions ?

yea if you look at a lot of bike magizenes with pictures of jumps. they tend to show the jumps along with the surrounding area. Also i think these pics may be a little over exposed, but some might think other ways. Nice crisp pictures though.

In my opinion, when something is off the ground, it needs a reference for the viewer to realise how high/far they have jumped.

Something that most people enjoy seeing, especially in the motorsports section, is motion blur. Try to slow own the shutter speed a bit and try to get the spokes wheels blured a bit. Super crisp photos though.

I ride BMX and have been filmed many times, people always want some sort of reference point, even if it is just the lip of a jump, or the coping of the quarter pipe, they need something to make sure your just not on a 2 foot kicker. good shots and keep em up
