Ever done a double wedding?

I talked to a friend of mine today and she said that two of her co-workers are having a double wedding and stated that they are planning to contact me to do the photography. They are two sisters they are having one ceremony, two brides two grooms at the same time. Have any of you guys ever done anything like this. I am not sure that I can handle it, but am sooo tempted by the challeng. I just want to be thinking about it in case they do call I will be ready with a responce.

No, haven't done one of those. But I'll bet you COULD pull it off. The big advantage is that everybody is in the same place.

Now I assume that the 2 sisters are NOT marrying 2 brothers. So basically there will be at least 3 families involved. It could get a little harry when trying to do all the group/family shots. But if you appoint somebody with lists who know all the principles, and who will help you organize the important group shots, this is possible.

Just make sure that you have PLENTY of memory, that you are wearing your most comfortable shoes, have had a large breakfast that day, energy or trail bars for a snack, and sufficient water for proper hydration. And make sure you get a good nights sleep. This will be a decathalon, but not an impossible task. - Stu

Nahhh.... you're still young and full of energy - take on the entire project yourself . You can do it!

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. I am racking my brain to think of someone that could do it. I am from a small town and the only other photographers I know are big pros that would not go along as a second shooter, OR are very unexperienced and would be in the way more than they would be a help.

I want to do it, but I may have to turn it down if I get called on for this one. I know the family groups would be the worst part of the whole thing. I know that I will be pushing myself harder than I ever have with this one. BUT then they may not even contact me, right now its in the "I heard it from a friend, that heard it from a friend who....." stage..

Who do you consider big pros in our area? Those worthies tend to dwell in Atlanta and Savannah. If you're considering our area of Nashville/Ray City/Valdosta - etc... We don't have any "big pros" that I'm aware of. The closest would be Susan Stripling in Tally.

We do have quite a few talented local photogs - but my perspective on them being big pros might be different from yours.

WOW. I just realized you are from Valdosta. I am from Nashville, but go to school at VSU. When I say big pros. I mainly mean photographers with studios, or have been in the business for years. I have only been doing this for almost a year, and am very small time and low priced.

Yeah, anytime I see "South GA" on a forum location tag - I've got to say "Hi".

If you live in Nashville and drive to VSU every day - you pass my store by Moody's South Gate everytime you drive by...

I've built several production systems for local photographers in our area. Since I mainly do product photography - they can at least count on me knowing the lingo and what they might need from a hardware point of view... Since I chat with them frequently (tech support), my perspective has never been that they were big pros - so I was wondering who you thought our local "hotness" was.

If you ever want to talk photography - drop on by. I'm an extreme gear-head (comes with the job), so fair warning! Heck, we're having a Christmas Party tomorrow (well, today I mean) starting at 12:00N. We'll have lots of people gaming, plenty of food - you know, normal Christmas party stuff. You're more than welcome!

Like I said its still in the "heard from a friend or a friend that they want you" stage.

As far as the price, no way I will do that job for the price of one wedding, but I might work out some sort of deal close to the cost of two weddings but not quite as much.

These are the types of things I need to get in mind in case they contact me.

Just checked it out. No one stands out that I recognize - but hey, it's a big area.

Lindsi, I would suggest that you charge at around 1.6 to 1.75 the cost of a single wedding if you decide to take the job. Some things will be easier, but the VOLUME of what you'll have to shoot (providing for all the volumes) will be significantly greater.

Are you planning to provide finished albums? Lab proofs? Those are fixed costs that would have to be figured into both packages and could get pricey depending upon the types of books they'd select.

Nashville huh? My daughter goes to school there - nice place.

Oooops - my bad Yup, that's Tenn. She's up at Vanderbilt, although home for the holidays right now with big sis and the wife and I are loving it.

I would do it but get a second shooter. Calculate that into the package price you give them. You need to pay attention to two brides, wo grooms and families from both couples.. you will need at least one more shooter to cover everything!
