I was thinking of getting a storage device like a portable hard drive but it has a screen and it can just plus a CF card into it and download pictures.
So my question is have any of you heard of or used a device like this and if so can you post a link of where to get it.

Is the main purpose so that you can download the cards and then view the images? I once considered this route for offloading my images during a job, but then just decided to buy more CF cards since the price has come down so much. I like to keep my gear light and simple, and don't want to bother with downloading the pix during a wedding when I should be paying attention to my shooting.

Pretty much no the main purpose would be to be able to put the pictures on to one device when off in the field. Although I like the idea of buying CF cards but it would be easier to lose a CF card than a hard drive.

Why would you lose it? Keep them organized in any number of velcro or belt clip pouches that are available on the market. To me, a portable hard drive is just one more potential gadget break. Not too mention that the better ones are pretty pricey. If you want to show the client what you are shooting, then that's another story.

I wait until after the job to start moving my files around. Away from the action in the quiet of my office I find it easier to handle things in a more organized fashion.

Don't get hung up on the gadgets. It's about photography and shooting opportunities. If you have spare cash, put it into another lens, a body, flash, polarizing filter, good software, etc.

While during one or two days of shooting the 'more CF' is a solution, if you are on the road for a week or two, at some point the 'more CF' is not a cost effective solution and the harddrive storage is the way to go. I do find that most of the time I am travelling with my laptop, so it serves as my harddrive storage solution, but there are some times when the laptop is not appropriate and the specialized harddrive (with or without the LCD to view photos) is desirable. One problem with the harddrive+LCD integrated solution (besides cost) is if you shoot RAW, when you get around to upgrading to a brand new camera, you will have problems getting the storage unit to VIEW the RAW files because the new camera will not be recognized!

FlashTrax or Epson Px000 are the obvious names. My Flashtrax is older than my 5D yet it still shows (probably the thumbnail from within) the RAW.
