I was playing some Chess with the Wife tonight, and after I decided to fool around.

Nice chess set!

Although the contrast between the 'black' and 'white' pieces in the second is good, I prefer the first because it is a layout you would actually see on a chessboard whereas the second would be impossible (ok, extremely unlikely) during a game.

Nice idea though and I like the way the lines of the pieces lead the eye into the picture.

I also like the first. I like that the pawns look like a strange reflection fading into the distance. Very nice!
