For those of you using PBase to show wedding or event proofs, how do you have customers submit print orders since the site really is not set up for photo purchasing like Flickr or SmugMug ?

I've been using PBase for a short time now and really like the speed at which it loads, the storage features, and "viewability." I always provide the b&g of my weddings lab prints in books, but include the online PBase gallery as a value added service for out of town guests who never have a chance to see the actual prints.

I realize that the main goal of PBase is to provide good economical photosharing services, and I feel they do a solid job of this. But I was curious if others have been able to use it effectively as a marketing tool for wedding orders. - Stu

I've been working on my own domain for a few months now and in the interim I have been using pbase for sharing images with my clients. I send them the gallery url and password and they simply have to supply the image numbers that they want prints off of. It has worked relatively well up to now.

If you are adept at coding it is possible to put a shopping cart on the pbase images. I've seen a number of galleries like that on there.

The way I work it has not presented any problems for me. My naming convention is pretty straight forward so this doesn't confuse the customer.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I'm taking a similar approach Sheldon, although I ended up hiring a pro to do my site; too few hours in the day, the regular job and clients cut into any attempts I made at trying to learn html, and I wasn't getting any results.

My daughter who is wiser than her years finally said: "Dad, why don't you just hire somebody who knows what they are doing." Kids..... I hate it when they are smarter than you are.

I share my images on PBase with the client just as you do. Now, I was not aware that you could code the actual image. Might you be able to point me to any PBase gallery examples that have that?

I'm transitioning from a Smugmug site to my own and will likely purchase a shopping cart to add to it. They aren't prohibitively expensive from what I've been told. As for order fulfillment, I'll likely use Miller's or White House Custom Color.

Happy holidays Liza. You've piqued my curiosity now... how does one go about purchasing a standalone shopping cart? I was always under the impression that these were integrated services like the ones previously mentioned here.

I've heard good about Miller's - they've been at the business for a while. I'd considered them at one time but went with Buckeye Color in Canton because they're closer to my home and have periodic seminars. It's a lot shorter drive ;) . - Stu

One of the options for a shopping cart is via a company called Stores Online. They offer complete integrated packages.

Thanks, Wool. You took the words right out of my mouth. :)

As for order fulfillment, I've been doing my portrait business with the Mpix side of Miller's and have been extremely pleased with them. I recently shot a session with a family from the east coast who saw my website and wanted me to photograph mother and daughter while they were in the Midwest over the Thanksgiving holiday. I used Smugmug to proof the session for the family, took the order via email, and used Mpix for the prints. Mpix sent the order directly to the customer at my request, as this was a special circumstance. I've been very impressed with their customer service. They're extremely quick in responding to email queries and resolve issues promptly. I would assume that Miller's has the same quality in customer service on the pro side.
