I just got a free monopod :D

Practical Photography magazine gave it to me after I renewed my subscription paying by direct debit. It's a Velbon UP-4000 pretty basic but a monopod is just a stick to bung your camera on after all, don't need much more.
Just thought I'd share :D

Col,

Did you have to do anything or did it just show up when you renewed your DD?

Well i initially paid a one off payment on my CC last year, this year I got the renewal letter with a slip saying if I enclose it with my application to renew my subscription by DD i'll get the monopod. They did say I had to reply within 3 weeks to redeem the gift but I left it about 2 months and it still came so i don't think they are too strict about that deadline.

You may need the slip with the offer on, but it's worth a trying to blag it "I'm an avid reader and supporter of your magazine blah blah blah....gimme the monopod" ;)

I usually just threaten to cancel unless I get the 'new subscriber' deal - this usually means a cheaper rate (or in your case a 'free' monopod and the same price I expect), If you don't ask, you don't get.

I do it all the time and never get turned down, they need your continued subscription to keep the numbers up.

This applies to all things in life, not just magazine subs, there are always better deals for new subscribers/members etc. and IMO this practice sucks - just give em' a hard time and threaten to leave/cancel.

I went to the website to see if they would give a price for US delivery and all that it says is that all international subscriptions are via Air Mail - no pricing.
