I am wondering what is the largest wedding party you guys have ever shot. I have one the summer that is going to have at least 8 girls and 8 guys. She said maybe more by the time the wedding comes along. That seems like a large amount to me but it may be nothing to you guys. I have been handling mostly very small weddings in this frist year. Would you mind posting some of your large wedding party shots?

The largest wedding I have ever done was a favor to my cousin. The wedding party had about 11 girls and about 8 guys. I am using the term "about" because I would like to forget that day and all of the details. Everything was a nightmare. She wanted photos that looked were really creative however the bridal party was very snobby and impatient. The best man did not want to take his toothpick out of his mouth, there were several occasions when I wanted to call him everything except a child of God. Then she wanted this mega family shot with about 75 people.

On the serious side I felt that it was just to difficult to work with such a large group of people, the attitudes, the time restraints. I no longer accept large weddings. Many people will say that you will lose a lot of customers but I have not. Just the ones with huge bridal parties and I am fine with that.

*By the way make sure you have a wide angle lense for group shots.

As a second I worked a wedding with 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsman. When we arrived at the church it was huge. Gigantic front with large wide steps. It was not a problem to get them all posed. But the reality is that this is rare. Getting them all could be impossible, so not only did we get the entire group but we had previously ensured an hour for formal shots we ended up taking a shot of each pair with the B&G. If you do a large wedding like this you better know what you are doing and bring a second and a poser. By poser I mean someone who can get people to pose. This is more then one person can do. Think of it, there where 28 people to pose. Try getting all those without an eye shut. Hah!

It worked for my pro because I had enough experience to help queue people for the pose. I knew who he wanted and when. This is definately for an experienced twosome. Incidently, you don't make friends doing this. You have to really take command.

I think the correct term for getting this many people working (posing) together is "herding cats" . . .
