You pick a lens for me :D Under $200 though and I will be super happy and will appreciate you forever! :) :) :)

cheerioOs,

Like you, I've opted for a "budget" lens for now, and for bird photography, I really like the Canon EF 100-300 USM. They can be had for $200 or less in the "For Sale" forum

Thanks tekkie. A 300mm lens would be heaven for me.
Is this a good lens:

Sigma makes 2 different versions of that 70-300mm lens, the APO version is the better one to go for, but it is a little more expensive.

You can see the differences between both versions here:

I'll probably buy the non-APO version. It looks the same to me anyways, but I don't mind the minor difference.

I got my rebel XT a little over a year ago and LOVE it. It has been a great camera to learn the ins and outs of SLR. For years i used point and shoots and was startint to feel the limits and wanted something new. I love my Reb XT!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!

Same here, I even had the Powershot Pro1, flagship of the point & shoot world with its L lens, but the 350D & Sigma lens I have now knock spots off of it in overall clarity & actually getting the shots in the first place.

P&S cameras have there place, but the 350D is hard to beat, I read on here that apparently Canon sells one every 6 seconds, if this is true then boy are they raking in the money!!!

Nick :-)

Damn those are some sharp pics!

I love the bird and the plane. What ISO did you use? I notice they were both shot wide open - presumably at 300mm (f5.6).

rhys,

Thanks very much! I've been very happy with this lens, although I still drool over my buddy's Canon 100-400 IS L! EXIF data:

Mockingbird shot was at ISO 200, 300mm, F7.1 at 1/500s.

B-25: ISO 200, F7.1, 1/500s, 160mm(we fly pretty close to each other sometimes). We do reviews for an r/c electric aicraft website, so sharp pics are a must.
