stuck ball head

ok i wanted to try my ball head on my new monopod....but it seems to be stuck on my tripod centre column

I've tried WD-40, giving it to my stronger brother, hitting it with a bit of wood and even swearing at it, but surprisingly with no sucess (you'd never guess i have an engineering degree would you)

How can i get it off?

I don't wanna clamp the centre column in a vice as knowing my luck i'll crush it maybe if i stick wood with grooves in the jaws then lightly use a blowtorch to heat it then give it a tap with a rubber mallet (in a torsional manner) it may free it

Try raising the center column up a bit, then look up the underside of the base plate which the ball head is mounted on. Probably a few set screws that need to be backed off a bit, so that the ball head can be unscrewed off the base plate of the center column.

Nah, i've completely taken the centre column out of the legs, no such grub screws or the like just plain done up too tight Thanks anyway

What brand of tripod?

Slik + Manfrotto 484RC2 ball head

Sorry, no additional tips. I do vaguely recall my Bogen/Manfrotto took a bit of force to get the head off which had been factory mounted, so I could replace it with a Linhof head.

Sometimes a bit of heat will do the trick in these situations. Try holding the head under hot running water until it heats up, then see if it will screw off.

It may not work, but it's worth a try.

Glad you got it off. My advice would have been two-fold:

1. Blow Dryer.

2. Throw it out and start afresh.
