Took my 300DRebel and POS EF 28-105 f/4-5.6 along with me to my group's holiday dinner. Had a bunch of good captures that evening, but this is by far my fav:

I like the capture! Did you desaturate to this level on purpose?

very nice I like this a lot, the desaturation suits well and the expression is great.....I came back to edit this after looking at the rest of them. What a great set of photos, you caught some top moments and the quality of your work is very good. I got a good chuckle out of the one's where everyone is getting stuck into the grog, I also like how you mixed up the desaturation with some high colur and b&w. The other noticeable thing is most of the images are taken unobtrusively, and just a few with people looking at the camera. I'm sure your colleagues would love to have a copy of these, I know I would.
Roger.

Thanks Roger. I recently made the decision after 14 years in this hobby, that I was going to try my hand at event photography ... so I really spent the night trying to shoot it as I would a wedding or other event. I was very pleased with the results, as are my coworkers .. I'm glad you liked it as well.

Her expression is lovely - it really shows how comfortable she is with the photographer. The desaturation adds so much to this photo, I'm afraid I'm going to have to watch out for the rest of your stuff! Great job,

Ahlam

She hates being in front of the camera, and in general she's a very very shy person. I believe the motivating factor to her comfortable nature in this photo is about 4 hours of beer, plum wine, and sake ... like I said, it was a holiday party =)

In addition to the actual composition, there is something very naive about her expression that I really like. It's the same wonderment you might see in a little girls eyes. I love it.
