Hi,

Need some advice here. I mounted the 24-70MM EF L on my Rebel XT this morning to shoot some shots of my family. The shots were great. But when I went to remove the lens it won't come off.

I depress the release button and the lens moves back and forth a small bit but will not unlock. I tried pushing in the lens and pulling the lens to no avail. When you try to rotate it in comes to a hard stop almost as if the lens lock mechanism is not being released.

This lens has always be "tight" when I mounted it on this camera but it always released in the past.

The XT is only six months old.

Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim -- I keep the Leica D-Lux 7 in the Glove Box just in case!

I'd almost guess that one of the screws on the rear mount of the lens (or possibly the front of the camera) is loose and is getting hung up on the mounting surface. Don't use too much force whatever you do.

I would take it to a Canon service shop and let them work it out, I think it is still under warrantee, just my opinion, I am Lucky I live about a mile from ours. D.

I looked at a lens and the body and think that Tom W might be right. There is not a whole lot there to catch. One thing you can try before sending it back to Canon is to make sure the lens is on all the way to the stop. (Clockwise all the way to the stop) Then press the button with a bit more pressure and try to remove it. The only other thing I can see that might catch is the the release is not clearing the tab on the lens.

Good luck. I hope its something easy.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Wasn't there a thread recently questioning why so many people have two bodies? Case in point....holiday disaster averted! ;)

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

I don't think so if you were in my shoes? Given Canon's track record of repair turnaround I lost 4-8 weeks of use of my Rebel XT

Yep :) I just took Christmas morning shots with it. Nothing like a $2,000 Point & Shoot!

Tomorrow it's off to Canon for repair.
