Wedding portfolio C&C

I have a smugmug site, when I post a couples wedding photo I post every photo that I intend to offer the couple. I wanted to create a gallery that future brides could browse and get an idea of what I do, without having to view every picture in a gallery. I feel I should add more pictures, but I am not sure which ones I should add.

If anyone is interested in looking at the gallery and telling me what you think. What you think is missing, what you think maybe should be included that is not there or maybe if there are ones that should not be there at all.

i'm confused. these photos say they were taken by Pekka Saarinen. in finland

they are people in an orchestra.

You should edit the URL in your first post or people will get confused and not give you feedback.

You say wedding portfolio, but I really don't get a sense of a portfolio. I see the galleries, but they are galleries. I'd like to see around 20 of your best photos. I'm sure I will see many good photos in your galleries, but a portfolio is different than a gallery in my mind.

That's how I learned it from getting critqued from photo editors. Obviously its not the same as photojournalism work, but i think the same idea underlies.

Okay, before I start, it all comes down to quality over quantity. I once had an editor from the LA Times who took my 20-30 or so photos and reduced the collection to like 10. He was like, if you turned it in this way originally I would have been wowed. I know it works differently compared to impressing customers, but the same concept still applies, maybe not has harshly though.

I looked through and suggest you take these out or at least re-think them over. Remember a portfolio is supposed to showcase your best. Best being your most unique, strongest movements, awesome lighting, etc.

So here's what I would take out:
5, 8, 11, 13, 18, 19, 21,22, 26

I do not think if you took anything out, you'd lose anything, but it would become a stronger portfolio. Obviously, this is one kids opinion.

Nice photos in general. I think you should get a professional website rather than smugmug. It's only about $10 a month.

Alot of the photos I put in were ones that I didn't really like, but that the clients really like. So I thought ok not everyone looking at this is a photographer so I added them. Now they are gone.

Well that's good. It made it easier!! Remember, trust your feeling more than the clients. If i trusted more opinions on my photos, i'd have many more in my portfolio. You know your skills better than they do. Go with what you like. Generally the potential future clients will like what you picked. Since you are stricter standards, your stuff that you like will then, wow them.

It's good to have a little of everything, but about 20 photos for a portfolio is about right, especially for the amount of time you've put into it. In like 3-5 years, you could throw more on top, but you'll probably just replace the old stuff with better stuff, that comes as experience takes over. You have a good start though.

My photo teacher always told me, "if it doesn't add, it subtracts." I always keep that in mind and it usually leads me to the right decision.

You'd have to either have someone do it or do it yourself in dreamweaver or flash. You'd have more control over how it flowed. THen you'd have to have it hosted somewhere. I have mine at network solutions. Hope this helps.

If she waits a little, my group that is doing picture proofs is doing something to answer that aspect of "you need to have someone." There's the sneak preview, but I will be the first test victim in terms of that. So I guess I'll have to show it off.
