Here are 8 batter shots from the 2006 season that I added to my desktop wallpaper collection. Some are tight, radical crops with a bit of post processing to include noise reduction. All were at monitor resolution size then re-sized again for posting here so they've lost some IQ. EXIF data is embedded and all were shot with a 1DmkII and 300mmf/2.8 plus a 1.4x TC for #6.

Thanks for looking and happy holidays!

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

Hey Jerry - All look excellent as usual. The only thing I would suggest is to remove the background highlight at the end of the batters finger in #6. It really stands out since he is pointing at it.

Dealing with harsh Florida sunshine plus shadows cast by baseball caps is a real challenge but I think I'm finally getting there and I sincerely appreciate your comments :D :D !

That's better Jerry. That's now my favorite shot of this series, before I kept looking at that highlight and not the batter.

Thanks Chris - I can't believe I missed that distraction and I even made prints of it. Duh...

Thanks Dave - No, that's not Cory Patton but if I tell you who he is here I'd have to watermark it. As for ST, I doubt that I'll shoot any games on Florida's west coast. I plan to shoot at Braves, Indians, Astros and Nationals then go to Arizona March 16 - 26 for some Cubs games. Unless you're at any of those games we might not see each other this ST.

Nicely done Jerry.... baseball seems so far off right now. But then again, I just booked my first college softball games for Feb, so it can't be that far off. Keep at it, great examples.

Kevin - Thanks -- I'm trying ;) .

Thanks, Mark - Baseball season just might arrive before I'm ready for it. I still have a lot of to-be-done honey dos on my list plus contracts to sort out. I've nailed down Florida State League photog again for 2007 but nothing beyond that. So I'll be shooting some baseball next season starting in April if not sooner.

Jerry,

Your timing in some of these is simply awesome!!

For me the favourites are 1 and 7, purely on the basis of the timing.

I will hold my hands up to not even remotely starting to understand baseball (despite spending 3 years working for an American company with a boss who was from Boston and was a fanatical Red Sox fan!).....however some of the images you and some of the other shooters come up with on here are fabulous.

So great work and look forward to seeing the new baseball posts in 2007.

Paul.

Cheers Paul - Baseball is a sport where the action occurs in almost precisely the same spots on the field over and over so knowledge of how the game is played and the players themselves sure helps in capturing action in photos. I've been a fanatical baseball fan most of my life so anticipating action is the easy part while capturing it is difficult because I'd prefer to watch a game than shoot it. I just need to get enough good shots to keep clients happy because at most ballparks mine is among the best seats in the house ;) .
