Mike - I guess if I lived in NY I'd be anxious to head south myself but I always view ST with mixed emotions. I think I want to be there strictly as a fan, collecting autographs, visiting with baseball friends and with no camera to lug around but when I see other togs on the field I want to be with them too  .

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

Cheers Steve! I don't get much of that sort of action because I prefer to watch those plays than shoot them plus there's no market for them among my clients. I might have a few that I've not posted -- I'll see what I can find.

Hey Jerry...yea, this 30-40 degree weather isn't agreeing with me (least it's not the zero-20 we usually get in Buffalo). I've pretty much stopped stricly being a "fan" nowadays in the sense of going to a game just to go, though I wouldn't mind a game or two just watching without the case of equipment I lug around from Feb-Sept. ST for me means getting out of the cold, getting away from coaching and graduate work (skipping a week or two of classes to do it), and plain getting away. It's a vacation, with work involved that I enjoy. I think I'll be there during Major League media days and then maybe again during some minor league days, either two weeks or two trips, not sure. Braves camp is usually my first stop though...I wouldn't mind hitting Arizona to! I don't see that happening though as my professor would probably fail me immediately :)

Mike -

Along with info in the two links you provided, I think your note tells me why I don't get excited about shooting ST. For me, shooting ST is anything but a vacation while attending ST games as a fan is my vacation. Eleven of the twelve Florida State League teams play at ST ballparks that I shoot in all summer long, crowds are much smaller at FSL games than ST games, very few other photogs shoot FSL games so I have little or no competition there, and I have credentials for all FSL games while obtaining credentials for ST games is a PITA. I've reached the age in life when having fun is more important to me than making money so I usually opt out of situations that aren't much fun. We'll see how it goes in Arizona, but if shooting ST there isn't more fun than shooting ST in Florida, I might not shoot much ST in the future.

Jerry... this is an outstanding set of images. All the ingredients are there: faces, intensity, action, composition, etc.

You've got my juices flowing for the cricket season... despite our national team's efforts down under ;)

Cheers Gavin - I'd sort of like to try shooting a cricket match myself someday if I could find one anywhere near home but I doubt that my 300 would be up to the task. What the heck am I talking about, I wouldn't be up to the job myself. Of all the sports I've ever watched in person and on TV, I think cricket's the one I least understand  .

Beautiful! I love baseball and only wish that I could do anywhere near this good. Keep it up, I anxiously await more of your great shots.

Sinjin - I think a love for the game goes a long way toward success in shooting it because you can anticipate a lot of baseball action. With practice and a good understanding of how to use your equipment I bet you can get similar results. If you've not seen the baseball shooting tips in the sticky above you might find some info in it useful.

Were these taken at Rodger Dean in Jupiter and at the Mets stadium in St. Lucie? Many good afternoons in those stadiums.

I shot #s 2, 4 and 8 at Tradition Field in St. Lucie but none of these at Roger Dean in Jupiter, although I have shot games there too. I shoot at minor league and spring training ballparks all over Florida. #1 is at Bright House Networks Field in Clearwater, #s 3 and 7 are at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville, #5 is at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, and #6 is at Cracker Jack Stadium in Disney's Wide World of Sports near Orlando.

Alright, thanks. I thought the one with the Cardinals player would have been at Rodger Dean. Guess not.
