I'm loving it. ACR 4.0 is fantastic, if slightly more complex. For me the best parts are:
- The fill light is fantastic for bringing out details in the grooms suit. Also great for filling in shadows if the highlights are good but the midtones are underexposed a bit.
- Highlight recovery is great when there's a shaft of sunlight that's blown out. Does a good job.
- "Convert to greyscale" check box does a good job, which you can tweak.
- Vibrance control is better than saturation.
- New interface is good, I like the workflow.
- Love being able to open JPGs in ACR.
- Should be better with multi-core processors than CS2.

Downsides:
- Beta of bridge has a known memory leak so needs to be restarted every couple of hours, or after caching thumbnails.
- Tabs in ACR are smaller so you have to be more careful to click. Minor but important point when processing hundreds of images.
- Couple of the sliders don't slide properly yet.

I highly recommend the CS3 beta to anyone with CS2, or anyone without photoshop.

Threads:
- CS3 Beta infomration thread here.
- Thread with books I recommend, including CS2 RAW books, which is helpful and will tell you 95% of what the CS3 version will here.

Does anyone know if CS2 will have an ACR 4 or is it just destined to be one of the features to upgrade to CS3? I briefly tried the demo, but my 3 year old athlon 2.1ghz w/ 1GB ram was struggling too much for my liking. I'll probably only upgrade my PC if things really start picking up though, but at this rate it'll be another year or two.

Looking at what Adobe's done in the past I doubt ACR will come to CS2. Wait for the production release before you decide about performance, I suspect it will improve a fair bit especially memory handling wise.

Been trying it out on my Apple MacPro and it does seem to be a lot quicker than CS2.
Am looking forward to using it in conjunction with the final version of Lightroom when it is relaeased in January.

Also like the Adobe concept of Beta versions and the ability to pass comments back to them.
