This is off topic, but need help selecting 35mm FILM EOS.

I know squat about Canon's 35mm cameras. But I am looking for a used one that takes EF lenses (so I can use em when I buy the 300d). I don't want to spend a fortune but I do want a good perfomer. What is the best bang for the buck with older 35mm EOS Canons?

I'd look two bodies,.

The "Elan 7" is essentially the 10D with film.. (actually the other way around,. the 10D is a Digital Elan 7)

Compared to Digital bodies,. the Elan is a real bargain,. I think about $400.00

The next step down is the Rebel Ti,.. which is probably the closest thing to the DRebel.

There are other Rebels.. a little cheaper,. but only the Ti has the DRebels 7 AF points..

I'd say look at those two.

If you want better,. the next stoe up is a big step up,. Eos3 for about $850.00

That's a real pro body,. a lot of the features of the Eos1

I agree with CDS. I'd go for the Elan 7E. Also, there are more and more 'high-end' film SLRs showing up used at good prices. This is no doubt because more and more photographers are migrating to digital.

I guess it depends on what you wana do with it really, i have a rebel 2000 and although since i got my 300d i havnt used it. It has taken some very very nice pictures with some very very cheap glass. And if i'm not mistaken they go for about $250

I haven't read the details, but it seems to have ETTL II, better autofocus...

There are new Elan 7s - as mentioned above they have ETTL II, which will most likely filter down to the next round of DSLRs. If you go for one of them, you will be in your best compatibility position with the DSLRs to come. If you jump now, you may be able to get a good deal on the current Elan 7, as shops try to close them out. The Rebel Ti is the next one down, and that looks like a nice option that is not expensive.

Your original post was about used, so one issue you should keep your eye on is flash capability. The DSLRs all subscribe to the 'EX' flash protocol. In the film camera world that means EOS3 or later. Check the EOS system chart at www.canoneos.com to see what they show as compatible in the flash realm. If you're not concerned about flash, any EOS body will accept all of the lenses (except the Drebel kit lens) in the EOS inventory.

A second hand EOS3 would suit down to the ground. Loverly camera and good deals to be had on s/h items.

Failing that the EOS 30 is also a great performer but doesn't quite have the flexibility of the single figure EOS film bodies.

Of course, a mint EOS 1nHS is would also be nice.
