I wish that I had composed this a little better. I understand getting 'caught in the moment' ;)

i think the composition is great. you've got the entire torso of the shooter in the frame as well as the puck hitting the net. terrific shot.

Nice! Color and exposure are very good. Sure looks like they could really use a zamboni out there.

Thanks for the comments. Ice time is tight for these tournaments so we only resurface the ice (Olympia ;) ) every other period. The snow does build up a bit. Of course, goalies are always shoveling.

30D, EF70-200 2.8L USM, 1/640 @ F10. Lots of natural light here. Most of the teams in our league hold their tournaments on indoor rinks with the normal lighting problems. Photographers love our rink! http://dlpasco.smugmug.com/gallery/2264635 (external link)

it looks to me like it's an outdoor rink... NHL arenas aren't as well lit as this shot. :)

Yea I agree the composition of this shot is just fine. And yes it is an outdoor rink.

I know this is alittle off topic but is Laramie's rink also outdoors still?

We played a Men's checking tournament when I lived in Ft. Collins in 96' up there. I don't know if you guys get down there. I would imagine your son is on the team you were shooting or did you just go out and shoot hockey?

Laramie now has indoor ice. Here is a photo, not particularly good, taken in Laramie. I chose this photo because of the NHLPA sign on the wall. Wyoming hockey struggles compared to larger markets but we do have several healthy associations.

Sheridan, Douglas, Big Piney and Riverton still have outdoor ice.

My son plays for the Sheridan Hawks Midget A team. I coached until this year and still hold a USAH card. That allows me on the bench - sometimes ;)

Your first shot is a great one! I like the composition- primary subject is the goalie, but the shooter is still in the shot.

Thanks Alan! I'm trying to improve my photos since my teammates tell me my hockey skills are fading ;)
