for about the past two weeks i have had trouble with err99
i dropped my camera bag the other week and all my lenses appeared to work
then my 28-80 f3.5-5.6 II started giving my err99 intermittently
i looked through the lens today and found this

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

yes that is a stuck aperture blade
it didnt affect my photos at all, and the lens worked perfectly as long as i shot with it wide open, i only realised this after seeing the aperture blade stuck

anyway, what should i do, get it repaired, replace it, pull it apart to see how it works
the lens is a fairly sharp copy, and came off my eos film body so it is about 6-7 years old and well out of warranty

Getting it serviced now would prove to be fairly expensive. A used one costs around 70-90 on ebay. If you're curious about how things work, feel free to pry it apart.

Great shots are like great parking spaces... if you're not quick, it's gone!

thats what i was thinking
i will most likely replace it with a 24-70 f2.8 or a 24-105 IS L

expect to see some photos of the inside of a 28-80 on here soon

Ooh err... Glad the rest of your kit is OK.

I'd also just 'have a play' and start to look for a nice new 24-105L :-)

Ooh.. I third the "have a play" option... it could be very educational :)
