Hi,

I was reading through DPReview and found a topic regarding the pricematch at Jessops stores and there is a lot of people complaining that they try and wriggle out of it. There was reference to adverts in a magazine, so I go and look in my magazine (Digital Camera - Dec issue).

Sure enough there was the following advert near the back:

"We aim to be unbeatable, but if you see any product we sell at an online or UK high street competitor, we will give you 110% of the difference if you buy it from us.
This offer is available on any like for like product offer that is an official UK import, currently in stock at both Jessops and a UK competitor, and can be verified by a UK phone number. This offer is not redeemable with any other offer. Online price comparisons will be made including P&P costs. Used Equipment, clearance, processing services, ex-display or closing down prices are excluded. Offer only available in-store (excludes Jersey and Guernsey)"

Yesterday however when I was in the store I overheard a sales assistant saying to a customer that they do not pricematch anymore.

Does anyone know about this offer or have had problems with it?

The reason I am asking is that I wish to buy the EOS 400D and found it on warehouseexpress for £479 whereas in Jessops it is at £499. So if they pricematch will that mean I get it for £479 minus £47.90 (10%) which means they should offer around 431.1. Is that correct?

I've heard this as well but I think it is down to local managers trying to get as much cashflow through a badly performing shop, and I'd be phoning around to find one that will price match.
I would also be telling Jess*ps head office about this because as far as I'm concerned they are flouting the Trades Descriptions Act (or something) by claiming they will price match and not actually honouring it)

Personally I only use Jess*ps to look at gear (not that they usually have anything decent in stock) and then buy online - As far as I'm concerned they are a bunch of ^%$*&^*

There is not much choice of shops up here in Aberdeen, just Jessops and Photo Factory. Then there is the large retailers like Currys, Comet etc. I have always been wary of ordering expensive items off the web and prefer to buy them in the shop. But that may just be me.

Good luck, I pricematched my 30D (£40) cheaper than in jessops, I had to physically intimidate the staff in the shop to get them to honour the pricematch quote (they even added shipping costs)

I won't bother with Jessops anymore unless I need to physically examine goods, even then I will order online after.

As long as you stick with reputable companies you shouldn't have any problems - I regularly (too regularly!) use Warehouse Express and Park Cameras and have had no problems. Park Cameras have a couple of real shops as well.

Yeh, they sound totally miserable. Do they still advertise the offer in the latest mags? I havent had a chance to buy a photo mag for January.

Also have I got it wrong about the 110%? Does that mean they will match it and come down 10% as well?

Isn't it 110% of the difference? In which case you'd get another £2 off bringing it down to £477...

Jessops told me they would start price-matching again in January sometime.

Why don't you just order the gear from the place you're trying to price-match with?! Or is that too obvious? :)

Because they were going to give another 10% back I believe, thus making it even cheaper.

IMO They really are a bunch of ^&$%$*" - (I may have mentioned this before :-)) They only seem to price match when it suits them, and not leading up to Christmas when everyone wants to buy something!

jessops the joke of photography shops.
went in yesterday with my friend he was looking at a panasonic compact.
jessops price £279 most other places £187, no price match so they lost a sale.
there christmas sale is a joke, fuji camera £249 sale price, down from £399. most other retailers £239 not in the sale.
a work friend got a print out last week for a compact camera, price £149 when he went back in yesterday it was in the sale at £199. after being told by the staff that this was the sale price, he produced the printout he got off them last week. after a few minutes away the salesman returned saying that the manager would let him have it at £149. ill leave you to guess what his reply was.
i dont know how they manage it , but they keep getting awards for retailer of the year.
but some poor sods will get taken in with these so called sale prices.
im going to email the company over all this, ill post reply if i get one

If you can get the same price locally from Jessops, if it goes wrong you can walk into the shop to complain, sometines with mail order it's a hassle posting back to the shop.

Yeh I think you may be right. I kind of thought why Jessops would be willing to take off about £40. :o

I just feel its better to go back to a store if you need to return it rather than posting it back to the internet supplier and I would rather complain to a person face to face than on the phone at the opposite end of the country. Basically just what andydajo says.

MarkyB, yeh do let us know if you get a reply. Would be interesting to see what they say.

i would personaally say from my recommendation i would shop there agagin

(Leamington Spa branch)

also i agree with the in store comments...I would much prefer to go into the shop to spend 500+ than online
