Upgrading to CS2

I've been a Photoshop Elements user for ages, and decided to make the jump to CS2 (about time!). Some friends of mine visited the US last week, and unbeknown to me, purchased an "upgrade" (official unopened box) for me as an Xmas present!

What they didn't realise was that it won't work with the version that I have (Elements V4), which is a different upgrade route - I could have told them if they had asked, but that would have spoilt the surprise (in more ways than one!)

Now I have a dillema , if I purchase Photoshop Version 6 (at some
extortionate UK price) so that I can "upgrade" from that, will it actually accept the version that was purchased from the US? - is there any sort of international limit on installation?

I don't want to find that I've spent a shed load of money, on an old package, and then find that I can't upgrade it anyway.

Hope that makes some sense.

Look into buying an OEM version of PS7 on ebay.de

Not sure on the US/Europe upgrade path differences (if any) - but I bought a full version of PS 7 from ebay (genuine) and upgraded from that. Paid about £25 I seem to remember.

Thanks Tim, I'll take a look at that option. I take it an OEM version is "full spec" and not a "limited edition" (which may not work)

Cheers Kevin, my only concern from buying on ebay is whether the serial number might have already been used (as the software doesn't actually need to be installed) - which I don't get to find out until I try to activate the upgrade! - I'll take a look though.

Anyone else got any thoughts, all input greatly appreciated

Selling new OEM software is legal in Germany, that's why it's cheap. AFAIK it's legit.
