Hi guys:
Bought my wife the 400 f5.6 for Christmas. She also has Canon 2X and Tamron 1.4X TCs. She'll be using the 400 on her 30D.
Wondering if anyone with experience using that combination (30D + 400 5.6) with those TCs might post their comments on how they have fared.

Thanks,
Jim

I think you will lose auto focus.

Certainly will with the Canon. The Tamron would be ok if it is the cheap one that does not report back to the Camera. Can always use the tape trick for af.

The 400 F/5.6L does not take kindly to TC's. The 1.4 is doable, the 2x is out of the question imo

I was think about getting the 400mm 5.6 for surfing with a 1.4 tele, so are you guys saying that the IQ loss sint worth it?

You can get fair results with this combo but you need good light.
This one was handheld with the 1.4 tc (used the tape trick to af)

I've used the 400 5.6L with a Tamron mc4 1.4x TC. The image quality is decent, but
not as good as without. Also the auto focus speed is not as fast, but still usable.

so with my Xti I would have to do the tape trick to get the autofocus to work.
