Nice action shots. Like KIPAX, though, I'd also like to get a rundown of your equipment and settings.

Tony all these were taken with my 1D Mk2n Sigma 120-300 f2.8. ISO 1600 all at f2.8 ranging in shutter speed from a high in the brightest spot of 1/800 to 1/320 in the corners, it was the first time i have shot a game at the new stadium. but i thought apart from the rain conditions were excellent & look forward to shooting the next game there, i think i will improve the more practice i get in there as i haven't had much experience shooting underfloodlights. I am not sure why the exif is stripped wether its the action i use to prepare the photos for the web, or just photoshops save for web i will look into it & see if i can sort it out.

Hey Steve - Sure glad you told us about the terrible conditions because some of these aren't quite up to the standards we expect to see from you. Proof that light makes a difference and I think you did well under the circumstances. As for EXIF data being stripped, that's because you saved for the web vs save as. #3's your best shot IMO -- perfect framing, good colors and I really like the action you captured.

thanks for the comments everyone , Yes Jerry i have to agree that light does make all the difference, shooting under the floodlights in the pouring rain is a real test of the photographers skill, maybe one day i will master it i will keep trying .:)

Cheers Steve

Steve,

Some fab shots in there, 3 is the best of the bunch for me. The lighting in the new stadium sounds fantastic from what you were saying! (Git!!  )

Good work though - hope you and the kit have dried out by now too!

Paul

Great stuff. That has to be a 'plastic pitch' - it looks a bit strange when there isn't a sign of mud anywhere for a rugby match in the pouring rain!!

the pitch is a mixture of artificial & real grass about 50-50 if what my friend the head groundsman tells me is correct it is a pretty new thing & is supposed to be a really hard wearing pitch, as it has to standup to a lot of use from the football clubs & the rugby.the other day was the very first game on it so we will have to see what it will be like in 6 months.

Superb shots in arkward conditions Steve. I would be very proud if they were mine. I like the idea of the Sigma 120-300 2.8 compared to a Canon 300 2.8 both in flexability and price! I know how much Kipax likes his Sigma if he has got it back yet!

Thanks Mike the Sigma 120-300 is an excellent piece of glass, although very heavy i know that if i had the money i would jump at the Canon 300 2.8 as i think it would be just about the ultimate step up in quality, nearly all the shots i have seen taken with one are almost on another level quality & sharpness wise, I know Tony (Kipax) has got his back but still seems to be having some problems with it :( , which we are going see if we can figure out what is going with it, at a ladys football game in January.
Steve.
