Well hours of reading and researching I ended up with this. A Canon 100-300mm f4.5. Arrived Wed about 5:30, too late to try out. Shot a few cat shots to make sure it worked and tested it with Raw. Today I went to the river and shot about 50 raw shots and a few Jpeg for comparison. This was my first raw as I just figured out how to convert with Canon software. I don't know if I am happy or not. The light was low and the shots were handheld. (Now I need a tripod). Tax money already gone! So here are shots. Duck P mode, water TV mode, both at 300mm.

That is the lens I am thinking about getting. What do you think of it so far. I would like to know after you use it some more.

You mean the EF100-300/4.5-5.6 ?
You will like it i'm sure! It is definitely a step up from the 75-300.
I've heard some reports on the net that it isn't much better than the 75-300 optically but i've found it is ,especially at the long end.

By the way-those pics are strongly affected by camera movement-you'll get much better pics than that (as good as those are) i'm sure you're happy to hear!

:D
