Is the Pro1 still a good buy?

Just wondering if the Pro1 is still a formidable P&S against the current crop of the P&S offerings from Canon like the A710 or the S3 IS?

I think so. Just because their are new cameras out there does not make the old ones bad..

I think that the Pro1, although a little slow, is still a formidable camera with an excellent lens and capabilities.

The Pro1 has a far superior lens to the S3 IS in terms of quality. In fact, it is the best lens of all the powershots in terms of pic quality. The S3 IS has the edge in optical zoom though. For the price of the Pro1 though I'd be considering the Rebel XT instead. Just a thought. Happy hunting.

The question of whether to go for the Pro 1 as compared to the Rebel would have to come down to the kind of pictures you want to take.

The Pro 1 is a great walkaround camera - a great lens, wide optical zoom range and fairly fast, a half decent movie mode, etc.

The S3 has (I believe) a lesser quality of lens, slower and not as wide, but a longer zoom and superb movie mode.

The Rebel has an okay-ish lens, no movie mode. It has the facility to be expanded with great lenses, but at great cost. OTOH, it is great in low light.

For an everyday camera, I love my Pro 1

I have had my Pro1 for almost 3 years and it still takes great shots. I recently used for a walk around day in Boston and it did a fine job.
