This is just going to be for fun, not for a client or anything. But ive never shot hockey before and need to start from point 1 with help. I have no flash except the built in one. I will be using my 75-300. Any advice on iso, ect? thanks

troyer16,

First off try setting a custom white balance either off the ice or from a grey/white card, this will help a lot. I've found shooting in M mode has given me the most consistent shots with the same lens you have (Tamron), because of the poor lighting and the f4 max aper. Depending on the arena I can only get between 1/125 & 1/200 w/ f4 @ 1600 ISO. And finally change the focus to servo so you can track your subject and keep focusing. If you want you can change the focus button to the (*) button and then focus and meter separately, this is done through the use of C.fn 4 - setting 3. Hope these help, and post some results!
