Always dependant on the club really but I like to go either at the 22 line facing into the pitch if a large pitch or behind the posts towards the corners so you can cover the middle of the park as well as the wing if smaller. There is no ideal place really as the when the ball is being mauled about the backs will move and the play will ebb and flow all over the park.

Wait for the action, fill the frame and at 300 dont shoot anything too far away as you will simply chimp it away later on.

Pete.

Thanks for the info Pete, I'll leave my stool at home and take my Knee Pads as I might have a walk around the pitch.

I'll post my images tomorrow evening.

Thanks
Darren

If the team you are shooting are getting hammered tho be prepeared to move a bit further up field if you are allowed to

This made me chuckle.....as it reminded me of the last home match where I ended up having to sit in the same half as the team I was covering. They were playing about as poorly as its possible to play!!!

Well, went back to the PP drawing board tonight.

Of late, I have been working on an LCD which is OK. However, I went back to my retina burning CRT to do this and came up with these.

Maybe I overegged the pudding with the LCD ? (not that happy with it but the CRT has been giving major headaches of late)

Do ignore the cast.

Another 'general' sport tip is to shoot from the players waist level up. Helps the viewing eye and the natural horizon.

Good luck.

Hi Pete i actually like the noise gives it more atmosphere and shows how hard it is to shoot under the lights, ive shot a few times at the Don valley stadium for Sheffield Eagles and we are talking bad light ISO3200 F2.8 1/640 with a bit of NR

Yeah, I heard it was that bad that when I had a job there (don valley) I bought a 5D especially for it and used 3200, which is awesome on the 5D.

It's alright when you can go out and buy a new camera because of bad lighting:)

when i will get 300 or 400 i will try 3 or 4 of my cameras in sports.
but i find my shots out of my MKIIN are superb, so no need to use another camera for low light (that because the lighting in the staduim i shoot is good enough).

I'd say that they look slightly smoother when comparing directly against the original pics, however the colours in them do seem muted in comparison to the originals!!!

I know that your pics are used for programme covers etc, however I was speaking to a couple of people who have said that when submitting to agencies they don't do any noise reduction. Apparently for papers it doesn't really show up that badly.

Just a thought!!

Love the pictures, and I have a soft spot for Bris myself, I take it your pics are the ones on the official website?

I do photos for Featherstone Rovers and Ackworth Jaguars in RL, I wish I got the results you have. I am quite new to sports photography, but am learning all the time. The boxing day match against castleford was hard work as it was almost dark, I prefer to stand on the terracing so used my 75-300 DO, so as not to feel a fool!, noise removal was essential after!!

My best results were away at Celtic Crusaders last year when we lost in injury time! It was very hot and sunny, which helped.

Good luck against Sale.
