Sure it is but remember it is not a substitute for a tripod. Push your gear down firmly on a beanbag and the beans may not move too much. But these beans, beads, whatever they are wil probably continue to 'settle' (i.e. move) after you've placed it so maybe not ideal for very long exposures.
A folded up jumper, t-shirt, or jacket would do the same job. You decide...!

I have a travel pillowcase (empty) in my bag for when I need support but
don't have my tripod.. It zips shut and can be filled with whatever is handy..
Rice,Beans,Sand...tape​s up almost no space and costs a couple of bucks at Walmart...

Looks a decent option ... I prefer The Pod beanbags as they screw onto the tripod mount on your camera or lens and helps usability IMO.
