My first attempt at surfing shots.

These are my first attempt at shooting some surfing. The break is Cabarita in northern NSW Oz. Its a right hander that is frequented by mal riders because of the nice long rides you can pick up in the right conditions. Mosto f the mal riders this day weren't doing much on the waves so I followed the short boarders. I used to surf here often about ten years ago. I couldn't have picked a worse day to give this a go, very overcast, the sky was grey and so was the water. I realise they are underexposed, hence the little extra noise. Also I know about the blown white water in the first. Both shot handheld from the beach. I had a good time and probably next time I might give the monopod a go. I'm happy with the action side of it, just need better lighting and practice practice practice.

Greg,

The second shot works really well as is. The grey background etc add impact to the shot.

Nice pics! I'm in a similar position surfing wise, havent done a lot, you can check out some of my early ones on here, love to know what u think. I really like the way the light works in the 2nd one, nice D.O.F too!

Yes I did, It was a little bit darker than this originally and I used a layer mask on a level adjustment layer to brighten up just the surfer a bit more.
