I am saving my pennies for a 5D -- want full frame photography. The release of the 400D is making me think 'not yet'. I now want full frame with anti-dust. But why settle for that? Really I want full frame, ant-dust and IS! :D

How long do you think it will be before Canon wake up to the competition and give us a full frame, anti-dust DSLR with integral image stabilisation?

canon will never, or atleast not for a long long time put IS into the camera body because of how much they have invested in IS lenses. there is a thread around here somewhere that states why in lens IS is better than in body IS, I can't remember why right off the top however.

Sounds reasonable, deadpass. But full frame with anti-dust technology must surely be the next step forward ...

Canon raves about their IS technology integrated into their lenses so I don't think it's going to be something they will change in the near future. The 5D is just about as good as it gets IMO. I've loved mine.

As for dust, I don't really have a problem with it. I just blow out the sensors myself before any event and it takes about 4 minutes each camera. Even when and if I buy a Canon with that feature, I'd probably blow out the dust myself. Habit. :)

You are spot on there, John!  Surely sensor cleaning should become a thing of the past -- anti dust has got to be the next step!

Yeah, old habits die hard, Suzyview, that's for sure. Personally I want the habit of being able to change lens without having to look for something like a surgically clean environment to do it in!

I think my problem is, in my mind, I do change lenses a lot and dust will get into the camera. I just would rather blow the stuff out myself and see it flying out then trust my camera to do it on its own. Where does the dust go?

You're never going to get Full Frame image stabilizer.

A moving FF sensor will cause vignetting among other problems.

See Canon's ad on page 49 of this month's (FEB07) Outdoor Photographer for your answer. Ad title is "Image Stabilization: Which IS is Best?"
The ad (with lengthy text) indicates that each lens needs a customized amount of stabilization and to make a sensor for full frame would require a much larger lens mount. True or not, Canon is making the case for keeping with their system.
