I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this but I think it would be a great idea if there was a forum dedicated to DIY projects. The number od DIY's is growing constantly and some of the ideas are very good and do get lost in the shuffle unless someone does a search for DIY in thread subjects. Often I find myself wanting to refer back to a DIY or see one that is posted that will slip down in the pages because it is not being replied to but still is a great idea and should be easily found.

Does anyone else think this is a good idea? Even better than a Sticky, because stickies would need to be created in different categories, whereas this could be a dedicated DIY forum.

Sounds good to me. I'm sick of the "buy this", "buy that" mentality that afflicts the photo magazines. I remember when they used to have neat solutions and ways of making things but the spirit of enterprise was crushed by the people that sneered "I don't have to make this. I have enough money to buy it" when 90% of the time the cost of buying something that one might use briefly just didn't merit the purchase.

Absolutely, but you do see people with money to buy anything they want stil choosing to use their hands and ceativity to make or demonstrate how something can be done without the investment in high or overpriced specialty items.

Lotto is a great example of someone that has a studio and lots of wonderful gear, yet his DIY beauty dish and softboxes are wonderul, creative and very inexpensive to make, assuming you have some tools and know how to use them. There are also many projects that are no brainers and anyone can make and build them.

I can count on one hand the number of DIY projects I've seen here. Granted, I may have missed a few.

Even still, do the number of DIY posts reach anywhere near the thousands? I can think of a few other subjects more worthy of a new forum.

How about collecting a bunch of good DIY threads, listing them all in a master DIY thread, and then having a Moderator make that Sticky and easy-to-find?

No offense but you must have a lot of fingers if that's the case. Do a quick search using DIY in the title. It's considerable and growing. Stickies are wonderful but that requires a moderator and someone to update it. A dedicated forum eliminates the need for moderation and runs itself.

Nope. A new forum require more moderation than editing a single sticky thread.

I think we could have a sticky with the DIY's, tutorials, etc. Just make a rather elaborate first post with links to the "good ones". Much like the "show me your --" thread.

48 threads.

Hardly worth a forum. 48 threads is worth a Sticky, but it's a ways from being worth a forum.

I see Leo has created a DIY sticky. Thanks Leo and thank to those that expressed interest in having all DIY projects in one place. It makes it easy to find and explore.

I would rather have a sticky where somebody can PM or post the link the the main person that watches the threads like IN2Photos is the "keeper of the archives" and just make a personlike that.

Sticky it is. If you guys haven't checked it out yet, Leo has obviously seen this and taken it into consideration. We now have this:
