Since you're posing on the wedding photography board, I am assuming you're talkign about a professional website right? I would suggest hiring a professional to create it and hosting it on a professional server.

I really don't like smugmug for websites. I would think about using them for a non biz site or for archival purposes (unlimited storage for cheep)

having youw own site is really a must, and theres ways of making it better yourself or having someone else do it for you.

theres some Flash templates you can buy in the software section of my resources page.

I used smugmug at first and I think they have a good service...especially their Pro service. I decided that it wasn't right for me..I still use their basic service for my family pictures. I didn't like that although you can set your own print prices if you have the Pro upgrade.. customers could go on other sites that didn't set the prices and see that their prints sell for standard smugmug prices, really cheap..If you are just going to use it for proofing and don't offer print sales I think it's fine. Just my take on Smugmug...I'm sure others love it..Kim

I would not know the first thing about hiring someone....that will take a bit of asking around...I am not in a big city area...

My son did mine, we used dreamweaver...and I think he did well. It is his field, but he was just startign when he did it, now his time is so limted...

I will ask around and see what we are talking here...I honestly don't even think there is a listing in the phone book for it...

Not everyone can live in big cities LOL

I don't really understand what living in a big city has to do with it. There are TONS of companies that sell web templates and do web design for photographers. Why do they or you have to be in a big city?

I use Smugmug only for hosting my weddings (complete weddings) so clients can buy prints online ... I have my own site wedding site for marketing purposes ...

My Smugmug site ... http://buy.forbescreative.com (external link)

I do web design too ... I'd suggest using a web designer over a big template company ... a designer can talk to you one-on-one and customize things for you.

I have a smugmug site. I don't know much about web design, so smugmug was the simple answer for my needs. I really like it. Its very simple to use, its simple for my clients to use, and its cheap.

I love Smugmug, check out my site and you can see for yourself if you like the layout. I am not a computer person so I just use what they give me with very little modifications...

I would not want to use smug mug for people to order through...I use photo reflect for that, and they allow me to set my own prices and people can order through me where I take them to the people who do all my weddings and stuff.

Right now, we are working on a smaller budget...so I did the go daddy thing, but wow, is that amazingly difficult. So now I am thinking of moving up a bit...I will check out those links and go from there...

I appreciate the help and advice

I with a friend have helped develop a site, that might help you out Lisa.

It's not a site for your own work, but we can handle the Proofs side. Picture Proofs (external link). You get to use whatever printer you want to.

I saw that on another list and did check it out. I just started to use Photoreflect and I like it...there is no charge unless people order. NO set up, no membership, nothing.

I checked a few of the sites given me..I like bigblackbag the best, I wrote to them and will check out their site when I can..today I just do not have any more time...I have a party tonight and a house to clean for men in the morning to come for breakfast...so...life is fast..but good

I still may go the smugmug way to just get it done and get it out there...and not pay a fortune to do so...I have time..
