I've been shooting, and I am short (5'1 5'2 maybe), and have found that my shortness can be good and bad. The bad part is when I am shooting portraits and am nowhere near eye level with my subjects. I was wondering if anyone uses a stool, and if there is a foldable stool or something that will fit in my bag that I can just have on me for when I need it.

Pele case possibly? They're pretty strong.

Hey man. I'm only about 5'5 and I have this problem if someone is standing up. Right now I'm using a step I made with some wood and piece of rug but I've been looking around and there are some small collapsible foot stools that looked good for this but I haven't had the chance to really get to it. I do plan on getting a comfy stool for portraits when the person is not standing or doing upper body shots. At least with a stool you can get them down a bit and they're more relaxed anyway.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - but is the stool for you or your subject? :o

I'm assuming that if he is saying he's short then the stool is for him. If he is working with a model that is standing and she's 5'7 or 5'8 he does not want to be angling the camera up at her and in order for him to compose the shot with the camera at the correct height, pointing straight forward he needs to be raised up.

I'm 6'4" - I have the opposite problem. I always have to squat down to get good eye-level pics of people. I guess squatting down is easier that growing taller, so I should be thankful.

Exactly.
What's a pele case? You mean one of those pelican briefcases that you put your gear in, which you think I maybe could stand on? I was thinking of getting one to be classy and wearing a suit when I take it out, hahahaha.

I am about to make an attempt at shooting models (atleast one person I know), and they are usually pretty tall. The perspective from down below can be interesting, but in this case, I'd rather have a stool or something.

Yes I was thinking pretty much that, just that it would double up as something to keep your gear in and something to stand on as well.

That's actually not a bad idea. I wonder if I could find one that would fit my tripod. I don't know if carrying a briefcase around would be fun or comfertable, but it's actually a pretty smart idea. I'm going to a store to get a 7 million dollar home tommorow (probably), so maybe I'll check those out too. Any links on them and what to look for, or?

Jag, I see you've already got the link from another thread on Pelican cases. By the way, they're marketed as Pele over here in the UK. I've got the 1510 and it's a good case and pretty easy to move around because it's on wheels! But I doubt you'd get a tripod in one. It's probably also worth checking out "storm" cases. Very similar and also made in the US. They all seem to do lots of sizes and shapes. But like all cases/bags it's a compromise and you end up with a collection of them rather like lenses  Yet another way to spend lots of hard earned cash!!

cheers
Bill

I wouldn't be able to carry that in a bag.

And wouldn't someone be able to just take the bag off the back less I strapped it in or something? I don't want to have to lever that around town really.
