I'll have to look for a link to what I'm thinking of... I've seen a small, compact foldable step stool that is made of plastic and its construction is outstanding. It is deisned in such a way so that it does not bow, bend or wobble, folds flat to about 14" x 18" x 1" and is light. The steps have rubber on them, it's white and not industrial looking.

Buy yourself one of the step ladders that folds flat...the Polder one we have to reach the top shelves in our kitchen cabinets folds to only 1.25" thick, yet provides 17" of added elevation. I think we paid about $30 on sale.

That sounds like exactly what I'm describing Wilt If not, it's very close.

I just checked around. The one I was thinking of is not the Polder. Those look good but what I was thinking of is all plastic, but an ingenious design so it's very light, collapses, has one sturdy, fiarly large step, and for the studio, you can get it in either white or black.

Here;s the link:

EDIT: The stool is a great idea but can also be a bad one. Depending on your height and how much you find you have to adjust, you may find that this stool (9" height) and others that have a 12" step are just too much. I use an anvil attache case laying down which gives me what I need, which is about 5", maybe 6" at most. A foot would be too much.

That's awesome! How much does it cost and where can I buy it? I think it'd fit in my 7MDH crumpler (maybe, probably not), but definitley my mini trekker I think.

The OP was from someone 5'1" or 5"2", so adding 9" puts things about the right height for that person.

I believe you can find those stools at places like K-Mart, Wal Mart, etc.. not sure if it's a Home Depot Items but I think it's available at large home type stores...perhaps Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I just found it..here you go:
