a70 canon service question

I contacted canon by e-mail about the serice of my a70 image sensor and they told me if the lcd was black when looking through it , that it would be covered by the out of warranty re-call. the problem that i have is that the lcd on my camera shows a purple picture with lines in it,not black. what are your thoughts on that problem and would it be the sensor problem they are talking about ? thanks for your thoughts

My camera hasn't been affected (yet) so I can't say from personal experience, but from reading here for a couple of years, it seems like purple lines was one of the failure modes.

ISTR some of the example cases around did show purple cast. Can't recall exactly where I saw them though. The service note doesn't restrict the symptoms to the screen being black. It's certainly worth sending it on to them noting that it seems to fit the general symptoms.

You should be fine. The CCD image sensor service notice doesn't strictly limit the problem to a black sreen. A lot of times it starts out as just a few lines across the screen and progresses eventually to distorted colors and then to a totally black screen. Go ahead and send it.
