i found what caused err99 with my 28-80
it was a stuck aperture blade

so i asked here what to do, send it in to be fixed, try to fix it myself or just pull it apart

i started with 2, then broke it further so proceeded to 3
and now here are the pics of it in bits

the lens was dropped from approx 2 metres up (pulling my full Computrekker plus out of the top of the cupboard)
everything else seemed to survive but my 350d "popped" open near the mode dial (it just snapped back shut again too)
the two weeks after this happened i got ERR99 when i tried to use the lens at any aperture other than wide open

Cool.

So where are the "after" pics showing how you put it all back together so it was fully functional? :p

i managed to snap the cable that controls the aperture bit
not being a canon tech i didnt know the right way to get it out and broke the cable

so it wont be fully functional ever again

That is a depressing series of photos. I hope to never see the insides of my lenses like this.

Was that the kit lens one for the Original Rebels? That lens was such crap.

You did get me scared though, I thought when I read the title you wrecked the 28-80 Monster L and that would be such a shame.

You know whats real fun to do... Put all that back together take it to a camera shop you hate and sale it to them. It's a fast crappy way of getting 20.00 lol

CJM - its a 28-80 f3.5-5.6 II - it came off my Eos 300 FILM camera - its about 7 or 8 years old

RCreevesphotography - if i knew how to get to the Aperture assembly without breaking the cable before i broke the cable i could have fixed it for free.

jcw122 - give me a couple of days and ill do a few more shots of the little bits close up

RCreevesphotography - no i wont be doing that, i like most of the camera shops in my area that deal in second hand gear, i may have to go and visit one to replace this lens though (either that or get a 24-70 L when i can find the money)
