I like the composition of #1 but I'm not a fan of #2 as there is no ball.

Both however are very pixelated and not very sharp. I’d assume this is because of the 2x on the 100-400. I can’t really suggest anything to be honest, other than a nice expensive lens :D

Were these shot with MF and on a tripod on monopod? The EXIF data shows you are at F11 so I’ll assume you had to MF (unless you taped the focus pins) and at 1/250 with around 800mm you are risking camera shake without.

Maybe try the 1.4x instead of the 3x, or go for a wider spread of action that includes both batsmen, bowler, keeper, slips etc.

This way you would not need as much length.

I've only shot Cricket once with a 300L but I gave up as I was no where close to the action.

As Darren said leave the 2x at home and take a 1.4x, when i'm shooting cricket i use back button focus and mf just infront of the batsman then i'm ready to use the back button for any action in the out field
This was taken with 300F4L + 1.4x and cropped a bit

Thanks for the comments Darren.
Just a tad early on pic 2, I like the ball in the shot also.
Manual focus on a monopod.
I think I will save for a 1.4 and make a goal to have it for the 07/08 season.
cheers John
