I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS. I recently discovered that the pop-up flash is obscured by the wide converter lens (WC-DC58A) while attempting to take photographs in an indoor setting (at a Christmas party).

Can anyone tell me if the slave flash (HF-DC1) for the S3 suffers from the same problem? Or will using the slave flash solve the problem? (No store that I have visited in Calgary carries the flash, so I am unable to discover this for myself locally.)

I noticed this problem mentioned a couple of threads, but I did not see any threads about using the wide converter with a slave flash.

Thanks for your time.

The pop up flash on the S3 can be obscures by as little as having the attachment on with a filter (which I always use). Having an additional lens will just make a bigger shadow. If you take alot of indoor wide angle pictures it would be benificial to get a slave flash. The Slave flash will far outreach the lens on the S3 so it wouldnt have any issue with lens shadows.

I would advise not getting the canon flash however. Canon Canada's eStore has it for $175 (and rarely available). You can get all kinds of brackets that hold slave flashes (a 40 year old german model I found at home fits) and there are cheaper flashes that work just as good.
