Anybody did a mod for the new flash called Nissin Di655? For $99 not a bad flash to mod for slave unit.

I don't have this flash but if you read the thread you will find that the procedure and steps for modifying the Canon and sigma like mine were the same.

If you want you can try opening the bottom of your flash in order to see the connection and if you still have room to mount your 1/8 mini socket.

also, try to see the photo from the 1st page of this thread and you will see how this 1/8 socket were installed but put in mind that you should first check which cable to solder to the pin of your 1/8 socket.

You are right. I don't have this flash yet, I am just trying to make sure if I can mod it; but then for $99 I may just have to buy this flash and take a look inside, nothing to lose. I also have a Canon 580EXI and Sigma 500 DG SUPER like yours that I need to mod, but just sacred in case I messed it up, I guess I just need to sum up the courage. :) Thanks.

If you mess it up, just buy another foot assembly...or have someone else help you fix it after you have helped...not a big deal, and unlikely anything will blow up or get destroyed! :)

Hah! That is the man himself - Michael Bass, it easier for you to say, you are a proffessional and an expert. :)
But I got it. Thanks. I may try the Canon 580EX tonight..

Trust me it is not that hard. I have the same feeling when I first open mine. But before you open your flash make sure try to find out where is the trigger pin. As for my sigma it is the metal at the collar of the flash and the center pin. If you try to short this two points with a wire it should trigger your flash.

Hi all

after reading this thread,i decided to do some experiment with my 430EX, rather than dismantling and risking the 430ex i decided to use the stand instead.
i made a hot shoe adaptor for my 400d using bits and pieces in my electronic parts bin.

and it works (when the 430 is in M )
nice thread BTW !

I'm wondering the same. Why not just use the wireless canon transmitter? Also with the strobes (JTL), they fire from the on camera flash anyway (Flash Triggered). Is this so you can use the 580's from the PC port? or with PW's?

EDIT: I see in the OP you use this to fire the flash from the meter. I do see benefit there. You don't have to take a picture to read from the flash ;) It is digital though, Ha! (Had to say it)

Why this mod? For me, it lets me use the Canon flash on a bracket with the OC-E3 cord, and still be able to trigger a pocket wizard transmitter that fires an off-camera light. I use this for wedding receptions, put an AB800 in the corner with the receiver on it and it gives dance floor and boquet/garter shots a nice bit of depth. I let the on camera flash do the exposure as the AB is far enough away not to overpower it. An optical slave wouldn't work due to the ETTL preflash, and optical slaves are also triggered by everyone in the room with a camera.

thanks Lotto, your work inspired me :-)
do you have any idea on the hot shoe pin (all 5 of them)description / connections ?

reason for this mod is that here in Sri lanka camera accessories are difficult to find.(even the agents don't have OC-E3 cord)

Newbie question. I understand that this mod is used with a receiver. Can it be used with a trigger as well? In other words.. Can I use the flash with the trigger at the same time to control a slave?
