So I'm trying to add a sync port to my Sigma 500 Supers and wasn't able to get it according to Vermin87's instructions. Anyone else do this mod for these flashes? Which wires connect to where?

I guess if anyone knows which pins need to be tripped to make the flash go off, that'll help.

Looks like center pin (sync signal) goes to the yellow wire, and splice the "ground" wire into the black wire.

Well, I just wanted to confirm that I was able to mod my Sigma 500's.

Tip connects to yellow wire/center pin.
Sleeve connects to black wire/ground.

My pair of 500s with my 580ex:

The reason why the Sigma 500's didn't seem to work when I was testing before was that it turns out it only fires in slave mode when using the triggers. Just by the luck of it tonight, I had it in that mode after soldering in the jacks and it tested okay, I then changed the mode, put everything back together, tested again and it wouldn't fire wirelessly! It took me about 2 hours of scratching my head and double, triple, quadruple checking my wiring and soldering, changing the wire, etc... before I unknowingly changed the mode again and got it working.

Just thought anyone planning on doing their sigma 500's wanted to know.

Looks like this info might have eased about two hours of apprehension.

See:

It gets served up on this forum quite frequently.

Enjoy! Lon

You know, I actually had that bookmarked but couldn't find it for the life of me this afternoon (for a completely different reason)!

Oh well, atleast it works now!

also for ef500 supers
when you trigger with sync port change your channel from C0
this will stop optical sensor
if you let them on C0 it will be trigger optical by other flashes:)

My bad, but I think I said the yellow wire right? Sorry if I wasn't clear about it. I actually haven't done it yet...it's coming up on my list of things to do, but I just got an AB800 so I'm not really messing around too much with my hot-shoe flashes

The 550EX can be modified by Michael Bass Designs http://michaelbass.blogspot.com …c-mod.html#StartFlashMods (external link)

Big apologies for cross-posting (see discussion http://www.flickr.com …iscuss/72157603175863092/ (external link) )

Am trying to mod my 580EX II:
1. Convert PC Sync port to 3.5mm mono audio jack (for Skyport Receivers, which also use this connector).
2. Allow flash to fire and command a slave while operating in Manual-Master mode (bridge a .02microfarad/50V capacitor across the ground and trigger leads)
3. Enable the sync port to trigger a Skyport radio transmitter

#3 I've not figured out yet, see build here:

Any input? Thanks!

Acknowlegements:
Thanks to Lon @ Flashzebra.com , Michael Bass Designs @ michaelbass.blogspot.com/ , and strobist bluphoto7 for figuring out the capacitor trick with the Manual-Master mode (from this thread: flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157602213898559/ )
